What’s a ‘Free’ vs ‘Gold’ (x.y vs Lifetime) License?

We believe that the Free version of MediaMonkey should provide all of the functionality that an average user would want, and that the Gold version should provide extra functionality that makes it even more useful for advanced users. The differences between the two are summarized on the MediaMonkey for Windows page.

MediaMonkey for Windows Gold licenses are sold in two versions: x.y (e.g. 2024.x) that apply to a specific version, and Lifetime licenses that apply to all versions. Both are perpetual licenses–meaning that they can be used with versions of MediaMonkey to which they’re licensed forever. The difference between the licenses is in the support time frame.

Licenses sold for a specific version (e.g. 2024.x) will only support updates to future 2024.x versions (e.g. 2024.1, 2024.2, etc.). They are guaranteed to minimally include 1 year of updates from the date of purchase, so if MediaMonkey 2026.x is released 11 months after a 2024.x license has been purchased, then a free upgrade to a 2026.x license will be provided at no cost. Existing Gold license holders who aren’t eligible for a free upgrade, receive coupons for a discounted upgrade.

In contrast, a ‘Lifetime’ license supports all 2024.x updates (e.g. 2024.1, 2024.2, 2024.3, …) and all future version upgrades (e.g. 2026.x, 2028.x, etc.).

Note that MediaMonkey for Windows and MediaMonkey for Android are licensed independently; a MediaMonkey for Windows Gold license will not unlock MediaMonkey for Android Pro features and vice versa.
